Barcelona v Athletico Madrid Betting Preview

A game that could have a massive say on the La Liga title takes place this weekend as the top two teams in the league, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, meet at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona are currently six points clear of Atletico and know that another win here would make them the huge favourites to regain the trophy. However, Atletico can move themselves right back into contention with all three points.

Tito Vilanova will be delighted with the way in which his side have gone about their business in the Spanish top flight this campaign. They have only dropped two points all season and look to be the strongest team in the division.

Lionel Messi continues to break records as well and he has now become the player with the most goals in a calendar year as he has found the net 86 times in 2012.

Vilanova knows what a big game this is, but if his men are at their best and the fans inside at the Nou Camp get behind them, then Barca should be a safe bet for the win. They are certainly the favourites with the bookmakers as they are at 1/3 with Boylesports.

As for Atletico Madrid, they had the perfect response to their defeat against Real Madrid at the start of the month as they thrashed Deportivo La Coruna 6-0 last time out.

Radamel Falcao scored an incredible five goals in the match and he will need to be at his clinical best on Sunday evening to help his team try to get a result here.

Diego Simeone will be aware of the talent that Barcelona have in their squad – but if he wants his side to make a title challenge, they need some points here.

Atletico could represent some great value for the win as well as they are at a massive 10/1 with BetVictor. Only Real Madrid have picked up points at the home of the Catalan club this season, but this side from the capital certainly have the players capable of causing an upset.

Betting on the correct score market might be popular for this one and at the moment the bookies seem the think that a 2-0 win for Barcelona is the most likely as it is available at 15/2 with William Hill.

Atletico can then be backed at 30/1 with 188bet to claim a 2-1 victory.

It is tough to look past Barcelona winning this one with the form they are in, but we think some bets on them making it hard work could be the way to go.

The away side winning at half-time but the hosts taking the soils had odds of 22/1 at Sportingbet.

A scintillating 90 minutes of La Liga action awaits and entertainment is all but guaranteed between these two teams full of quality.

Australian Open Women’s Tennis Betting

The women’s side of the Australian Open betting sites is fascinating to behold because there are so many potential winners of the event.

Petra Kvitova is currently ranked as the favourite and she should do well considering the experience she gained while winning Wimbledon. Kvitova has one of the best all round games in the female game and will be difficult to beat in conditions which suit her strengths. She is slightly fitter and stringer than some of the female players on show which gives her an advantage. Sportingbet offers the best odds of 3/1.

Serena Williams can never be counted out from winning any Grand Slam title. She has the experience needed to make big inroads in this event and should be looking to dominate any player she plays against. Williams is the strongest and most aggressive player on her day which is simply too much for a lot of female opponents to put up with. BetVictor offers 9/2 on the multiple Grand Slam winner adding another title to her collection.

Victoria Azarenka had an early scare in her opening match of the event but she seems to be in good form. She looked as though she found the heat in Australia a little bit too much but the experience she gained from an early three set match will set her up well for the rest of the tournament. Azarenka is rated as an 11/2 shot in the betting market with Betfred but these odds could go shorter as she’s a popular player.

Kim Clijsters is similar to Williams in the respect that she has been there and done it before. The Belgian knows what it takes to win Grand Slam titles and this is a surface which has served her well throughout her career. A lot of people are saying that Clijsters is past her best but every time questions have rose over her career, she has answered emphatically with big wins in big matches. She is rated as an 8/1 shot with William Hill.

Li Na is one of the current female players with some recent wins under her belt and the feisty Chinese player will be going all out for a win. Li Na has a game which seems to be suited to the slower surfaces such as clay and grass but she can up the ante at any time in big matches which makes her so dangerous. She’ll want to prove that she is more than just a one Grand Slam winner. She is 12s with Sportingbet and Stan James.

Caroline Wozniacki is a player who has been under a lot of pressure for a long time. The Dane has been ranked as the best player in the world for the female circuit over a long period and is still looking for her first Grand Slam title which would take that pressure away. She is carrying a wrist injury but her early round match showed no signs of this being a problem. She is 16s with a few bookies.
